Statues come close. Yes, in Parafin statues come close. The eyes and the hands of these statues are somehow the same. Each figure inhabits its own uniquely rendered and eternally similar crux; we can see that, we can see it in their eyes and in their hands. They aim towards different things but each pair of eyes and hands wants to hold something, wants to grasp something, wants to hold something and not ever let go. And then the legitimacy of the want was completely shaken and for a while we felt very alone and we sat alone in another area. And we looked with music until we were quite full of notes and just touching made a sound we were so bereft of protection. And then these sounds altered the place and our surroundings and we felt for a time we were going mad. So very very mad. Nothing stayed the same and everything just kept on getting smaller and we broke things and walked into things and at night our skin prowled and our hair coiled. And then we had to decide what to do so we hunkered down we accepted the confines of where we were and hunkered down and in the confines something even smaller sparkled and we looked at the sparkle a long time before we went near it and when, eventually, we went near it we felt a little afraid. And we were right to feel that way. Our head was thickening and we felt leaden; we couldn’t tell any more, we just couldn’t tell. We hunkered down in the dark and the sparkle became intricate and moved in and around our closed body finding gaps and things to read and we knew then this was the crux of course and there was more air than there had been for a long time and there was more time than there had been anywhere we’d ever been and in these conditions nothing remains personal not even your heart and the things it loves and the way these things make you fixated and taper. And we couldn’t tell anymore, we just couldn’t tell. We had no story anymore the story was blown away and we could see it far off it flapped and vanished. And then we were no longer alone. There were so many faces and flames and men crying and women motionless and eyes closing and hands motionless and we were the same we were quite the same and this is where we live and this place is called Parafin and the frogs are red and lurch and the frogs were once hunkered inside us.
